The UN LGBTI Core Group will hold a high-level event during the 79th session of the General Assembly to highlight our common hope of a future of our planet that is “safe, sustainable, peaceful, inclusive, just, equal, orderly, and resilient” for all persons, including those who are LGBTI.
As Member States adopt the Pact for the Future, they set the roadmap for how the world will walk together on its “path to a brighter future for all of humanity, including for the most vulnerable.”
LGBTI persons are among the most vulnerable. They face challenges in many areas: they are criminalized and discriminated against by law and society, scapegoated by leaders of the communities they live in, repeatedly excluded in the development agenda in their local contexts, and are acutely affected by armed conflicts and in humanitarian emergencies.
These challenges are deeply interconnected and their resolution far exceeds the capacity of any single organization, institution or State alone.
In this spirit, as States adopt the Pact for the Future, this event is an opportunity for member states to highlight what has been achieved, share examples of how they can collectively address the inclusion of LGBTI persons in a common future, and again affirm their commitment to leave no one behind.
