The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) is an independent, non-partisan institution operating at the nexus of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Disaster Risk Finance (DRF), and Disaster Risk Intelligence (DRI). With national and regional programs active in over 120 countries, GCRI supports the advancement of sovereign foresight infrastructure, science-based policy integration, and capital-aligned resilience frameworks. Through its convening platforms, research architecture, and digital public goods, GCRI promotes anticipatory governance and long-term system stability in an era of accelerating global risk.

Role Overview

The Global Risks Forum (GRF) serves as GCRI’s primary multilateral engagement platform, supporting public diplomacy, interinstitutional collaboration, and civic foresight at scale. In preparation for the formal launch of its Board of Directors in 2026, GCRI invites expressions of interest from distinguished professionals for the role of Chairperson Designate. All prospective candidates must first join the GRF Leaders Council in 2025, which functions as the principal advisory body responsible for guiding strategic priorities, regional dialogue, and institutional co-design during the Board’s formation phase. Membership in the 2025 Council is a prerequisite for Board eligibility.

About GRF: https://therisk.global/global-risks-forum-grf/

The Chairperson, once appointed in 2026, will preside over Board proceedings, provide governance leadership, and represent GRF across diplomatic, scientific, financial, and multilateral platforms. The role requires a capacity for principled stewardship, discretion in public engagement, and alignment with the Forum’s institutional mandate.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Recognized leadership in international governance, public policy, or multilateral cooperation
  • Strategic familiarity with risk governance frameworks, including DRR, DRF, and DRI
  • Experience in board governance, advisory councils, or institutional oversight
  • Capacity to facilitate inclusive and forward-looking deliberation at a high level
  • Excellence in cross-sectoral representation, including intergovernmental or civil society engagement
  • A substantive record of contributing to resilient, inclusive, and systems-oriented initiatives
  • Advanced academic or professional standing in a relevant domain (e.g., international relations, public administration, finance, law, environmental policy)

Engagement Process

The Chairperson role is non-executive and non-remunerated, reflecting the Forum’s global public mission. However, it carries institutional authority and offers a distinguished platform for thought leadership, policy influence, and cross-border collaboration. Prospective leaders must:

  1. Join the GRF Leaders Council during 2025, participating in quarterly strategic sessions and contributing to the Forum’s multilateral agenda.
  2. Support the institutional formation process in preparation for the formal inauguration of the GRF Board in early 2026.
  3. Be nominated or invited to the Chairperson selection process by the Council and GCRI’s Central Bureau.

Expression of Interest

GCRI encourages interest from accomplished professionals currently serving in full-time or leadership roles who seek to contribute to global risk governance in a formal diplomatic capacity. The Forum offers a unique opportunity to engage at the highest level of multilateral strategy, in service of future generations and planetary resilience. For consideration, please indicate your interest in joining the 2025 Leaders Council, from which nominations for the Chairperson and other Board roles will be drawn.
