Mandate and publisher

Advanced Industry and Robotics is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), the research, development and policy institution of Nexus Consortiums. GCRI works across Canada and the United States. This page sets out the platform's mandate, who answers for it, the limits of its role and its current state. See the Advanced Industry and Robotics home page.

02Mandate

Research on how production systems change and fail.

The platform covers industrial innovation, automation, robotics and process resilience in changing production systems. It brings engineering, safety science, materials science and labour research together.

Field

Scope

Industry and robotics, with links to work and skills and to trade, resources and supply chains.

Community

Who takes part

Industrial engineers, manufacturing researchers, automation specialists and safety scientists.

Outputs

What it publishes

Industrial transition briefs, safe automation guides and resilience case studies.

03Canvas

Mandate to authority.

Canvas · mandate to authorityDesign, not a record
How Advanced Industry and Robotics is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

Fig.How the platform is governed, from its mandate to the authorities who decide. Design, not a record.

04Structure

Process safety and the workforce at the core.

Process safety and the industrial workforce are essential parts of the platform rather than separate subsidiaries. Focused work is carried in two chapters, Industrial and Chemical Safety and Circular Economy and Pollution, which share the platform's editorial standards and publisher.

GCRI publishes the platform and answers for its content and corrections. Editorial coverage of each topic requires named subject review, references and relevant independent specialist voices. Research with companies is designed to be precompetitive and to protect confidential information.

06Limits

What the platform does not do.

  • It does not regulate, certify, license or approve any plant, machine, product or institution.
  • It does not prepare or review safety cases for individual sites, or replace a competent engineer's assessment.
  • It does not endorse vendors or technologies, and taking part gives no authority or influence over findings.
  • Safety, permitting and investment decisions remain with operators and competent authorities; see trust, rights and status.
