About Me
Catherine Oriana Morillo Arbelaez
Researcher
I'm from Colombia. I am a passionate about nature and its conservation, as well as disaster risk reduction. I have a B.Sc in Environmental Management from the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira, Colombia.
Living in Colombia, specifically in my region and surroundings, has provided me with a different understanding of environmental dynamics and the importance of adapting as human beings to a changing world and climate.
I have worked as a research assistant for the doctoral thesis "Historical Environmental Transformation in the Risaralda River Basin, Risaralda Colombia" written by my mentor. I contributed by conducting in-depth bibliographic research and historial cartography searches across various local and national map databases, compiling and organizing detailed bibliographic records and summaries using database management systems, and utilizing GIS, for advanced data analysis and visualization.
I also lead the Disaster Risk Management Research Group at the UTP University, there we create training spaces on topics related to disaster risk management, promote spaces for reflection and discussion on territorial realities from the perspective of disaster risk management at global and local (Colombia) scale, and disseminate the knowledge and contributions acquired in disaster risk management to the community.
I volunteered to contribute to the project "Data Collection and Validation of AI-Enabled Data on Service Providers for Global Biodiversity Framework Targets" in collaboration with the UNDP and fellow volunteers. Our team focused on gathering and validating information on environmental serviced providers working towards the achievement of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
