Moderated groups where specialists discuss questions in Climate and Hazards. Each group is listed here when its moderation, terms and hosting are in place, with its scope and how to join.

Climate and Hazards subject groups are moderated forums where climatologists and meteorologists discuss open questions in the climate and hazards field, such as climate baselines and heat and drought. Each group is listed once its moderation, terms and hosting are in place, with its scope and how to join. A group informs the platform's work and has no authority over its findings.

For subject groups, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, true-colour imagery and night lights with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on World; 3 further NASA layers wait in the list.

Layers and dates
Hazard groups bring climate modellers, statisticians and the national services that issue products to the same table, so that choices like reference period, downscaling method and bias correction are argued once and documented, instead of differing silently between studies.
Write to contact@therisk.global. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |
| Chatham House Rule | A rule under which participants may use information received but may not reveal the identity or affiliation of speakers. |
| Compound event | Two or more hazards or drivers occurring together or in sequence whose joint impact exceeds what either would cause alone, such as drought followed by intense rain; IPCC assessments use the term. |
| Climate normal | An average of a climate variable over a standard thirty-year period, computed under WMO rules. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
