The science, technology, engineering and mathematics Digital Public Infrastructure rests on. Each method has a canonical page in the STEM Commons, hosted by GCRI, and a page here on how it is applied in this field.

The Digital Public Infrastructure STEM foundation is the set of canonical methods its findings depend on, from digital identity and public digital systems to distributed ledgers and digital assets. For the Consortium, Digital Public Infrastructure stewards digital identity and public digital systems. Each method has a canonical STEM Commons page and a page here on its use in the digital public infrastructure field.
For STEM foundation of digital public infrastructure, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on night lights, population density and true-colour imagery with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on India; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.
The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

DPI work combines digital identity, data engineering and cybersecurity for the core systems, payments technology for transfers, computing for hosting and distributed ledgers where they are proposed. The mix reflects how DPI fails: through exclusion at enrolment, outages in hosting, attacks on credentials and errors in payment flows.

When a finding names the methods it depends on, a reader can see its assumptions and limits, and an expert in that method can challenge it.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| STEM Commons | The shared reference of science, technology, engineering and mathematics methods for the Nexus network, hosted by GCRI, with one canonical page per method and a named steward platform. |
| Steward platform | The platform that maintains the canonical description of a method in the STEM Commons and reviews how other platforms apply it. |
| Digital identity and public digital systems | Digital identity and public digital systems provide the means for people and organisations to prove who they are and access services online. |
| Data engineering, interoperability and stewardship | Data engineering, interoperability and stewardship cover the pipelines, standards and governance that make data usable and trustworthy. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
