The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI)
Who takes part in Data and Compute, what they contribute and how moderation and privacy work.
The Data and Compute community is the network of data engineers and HPC specialists who contribute expertise, review and data to its work on data and compute as well as energy. They take part through moderated subject groups and working groups. Rules apply equally to all, interests are declared, and taking part gives no authority over findings.

Added as sub-communities form
The community joins research software engineers, data stewards, high-performance computing specialists, data-centre and energy engineers and data protection specialists. They meet over access, stewardship and sustainability, which are decided by different bodies but constrain each other. Their methods include computing and energy technology; topics include research infrastructure access.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |
| Conflict of interest | A situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review. |
| Personal data | Any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, directly or indirectly, such as a name, an identification number, location data or an online identifier, as the EU General Data Protection Regulation defines it. |
| FAIR data | Data that are findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable, under the FAIR Guiding Principles. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
