The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI)
Who takes part in Space and Earth Observation, what they contribute and how moderation and privacy work.
The Space and Earth Observation community is the network of remote-sensing scientists and space engineers who contribute expertise, review and data to its work on space and Earth observation as well as climate and hazards. They take part through moderated subject groups and working groups. Rules apply equally to all, interests are declared, and taking part gives no authority over findings.

For specialist community, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, true-colour imagery and night lights with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on the Arctic; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

Added as sub-communities form
The community joins remote-sensing scientists, geospatial analysts, space systems engineers, statisticians and the agencies that use EO products. They look here for validated products and for awareness of the space infrastructure risks behind them. Methods are Earth observation and space systems; topics include space system resilience.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |
| Conflict of interest | A situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review. |
| Personal data | Any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, directly or indirectly, such as a name, an identification number, location data or an online identifier, as the EU General Data Protection Regulation defines it. |
| Analysis-ready data | Satellite data processed to a minimum standard so that users can analyse it without further preprocessing. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
