GCRI · Six programme regions

Latin America and the Caribbean region

Latin America and the Caribbean connect Amazon and Andean water systems, agricultural export corridors, and states exposed to hurricanes, sea-level rise and earthquakes. Country programmes lead. Regional work makes evidence compatible across basins, ports and power systems, so small and large states test the same questions on their own terms. In formation, with one planned hub (a coordination role, not an office). Part of Six programme regions.

02Planned hubs

Coverage by planned hub.

Each planned hub coordinates shared-system work for a group of countries. No hub host decision is on record, so each is a planned coordination role rather than an operating site.

Mexico also takes part in the North America programme. Small island states keep their own country programmes and test the same questions on their own terms.

04Shared systems

The cross-border questions this region examines.

Amazon and Andean systems, hurricane-exposed islands and food corridors, with national ownership at the centre. Listing a country in a hub group does not by that fact give it a constituted programme.

SystemQuestion
Amazon and Andean water systemsHow do deforestation, glacier retreat and rainfall change water, hydropower and food security across borders?
Canal and port continuityHow would low water at the Panama Canal or disruption at a hub port propagate through regional and global trade?
Hurricane and seismic exposureWhere do compound hazards meet concentrated public assets and limited fiscal space?
Agricultural export systemsWhich climate, logistics and market dependencies drive volatility in staple and export crops?
Island energy and connectivityHow dependent are island states on imported fuel and single connectivity paths, and what continuity options exist?

Shared-system work compares governed outputs and preserves dissent. It creates no treaty, sovereignty transfer or right to move data. See Cross-border risk systems.

06Focus

Domains, tools and offerings in regional demand.

The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) reads this region’s evidence for finance: sovereign catastrophe-risk and protection-gap questions for small island states; readiness evidence for climate-adaptation and infrastructure investment; agricultural and commodity-price transmission into public finances. GRA never lends, underwrites, rates or invests. See its regional programmes.

07Status

Programme state and how to take part.

State on record: in formation. No regional host is on record, and no named consortium programme is recorded in this region. The programme and its one planned hub are in formation. Information and enquiries are open today. Write to the regional desk at the contact form (Latin America and Caribbean desk) or the Secretariat at the contact form. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step. Engagement follows the Foundry sanctions and eligibility policy. Where it is not available, no desk or call to action appears.

08Questions

Questions and answers.

Is there a GCRI office in Latin America and the Caribbean?
No. The planned hubs are coordination roles, not offices, and no hub host decision is on record.
Does a country listed here have a national programme?
Not by that fact. Listing records research coverage and the scope for formation enquiries; each country’s own state is shown on Countries and research profiles.
Who decides the regional agenda?
National programmes set their own agendas. Regional work compares compatible evidence on shared systems; no regional body binds a country, and withdrawal never erases other parties’ lawful work.
What role does The Global Risks Forum (GRF) play here?
GRF leads institutional dialogue and the governance of Universe across the programme. Its regional view is on Regional cooperation.
