GCRI · Six programme regions

North America region

North America runs on integrated electricity, energy, transport and manufacturing systems across Canada, the United States and Mexico, exposed to wildfire, heat, flood, hurricanes and Arctic change. The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) holds the Consortium Secretariat seat in Toronto. The Canada Nexus Consortium programme sits here. Mexico also joins the Latin America and the Caribbean programme. In formation, with two planned hubs (coordination roles, not offices). Part of Six programme regions.

01Planned hubs

Coverage by planned hub.

Each planned hub coordinates shared-system work for a group of countries. No hub host decision is on record, so each is a planned coordination role rather than an operating site.

Planned hubCountries coveredFocus
CanadaCanadaNational adaptation, sovereign compute, Indigenous and Arctic interfaces, infrastructure and North American coordination.
United StatesUnited States, MexicoFederal, state, Tribal and territorial interfaces; power, digital infrastructure, hazard resilience and supply chains.

Mexico also takes part in the Latin America and the Caribbean programme. The United States hub’s focus covers federal, state, Tribal and territorial interfaces; the Canada hub’s covers Indigenous and Arctic interfaces.

03Shared systems

The cross-border questions this region examines.

Integrated grids, continental supply chains and the Secretariat seat, organised around national programmes. Listing a country in a hub group does not by that fact give it a constituted programme.

SystemQuestion
Integrated electricity and energyHow do interties, gas supply, extreme cold and heat create cross-border reliability risk?
Continental supply chainsWhich border crossings, rail networks and ports concentrate exposure for integrated manufacturing?
Great Lakes, Colorado and Rio Grande watersHow do drought, allocation and quality pressures change water security across shared basins?
Wildfire, heat and smokeWhich health, power and transport systems fail together during cross-border wildfire seasons?
Data centres and computeHow do data-centre growth, grid capacity and water use interact, and what continuity do public services need?

Shared-system work compares governed outputs and preserves dissent. It creates no treaty, sovereignty transfer or right to move data. See Cross-border risk systems.

05Focus

Domains, tools and offerings in regional demand.

The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) reads this region’s evidence for finance: insurance availability and protection gaps for wildfire, flood and hurricane; climate-related financial questions for utilities, real estate and municipalities; technology and compute concentration in financial-market infrastructure. GRA never lends, underwrites, rates or invests. See its regional programmes.

06Status

Programme state and how to take part.

State on record: in formation. GCRI Canada holds the Consortium Secretariat seat in Toronto, Ontario. The Canada Nexus Consortium programme sits within this region. The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) publishes its programme page. It is in formation. Its earlier capability and finance statements are under publisher review against current records before reuse. Information and enquiries are open today. Write to the regional desk at the contact form (North America desk) or the Secretariat at the contact form. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step. Engagement follows the Foundry sanctions and eligibility policy. Where it is not available, no desk or call to action appears.

07Questions

Questions and answers.

Is there a GCRI office in each North American country?
No. The Consortium Secretariat sits with GCRI in Toronto. The two planned hubs, Canada and the United States, are coordination roles, not offices.
Does a country listed here have a national programme?
Not by that fact. Listing records research coverage and the scope for formation enquiries; each country’s own state is shown on Countries and research profiles.
Who decides the regional agenda?
National programmes set their own agendas. Regional work compares compatible evidence on shared systems; no regional body binds a country, and withdrawal never erases other parties’ lawful work.
What role does The Global Risks Forum (GRF) play here?
GRF leads institutional dialogue and the governance of Universe across the programme. Its regional view is on Regional cooperation.
