01In brief

The short answer.

Biodiversity Nexus publications are the platform's reviewed, citable outputs, such as biodiversity evidence notes, ecosystem maps and restoration evaluation guides. Each carries its authors, date, method, evidence labels and editorial status, and a correction creates a new version with its history. Contributions to series such as Global Sector Risk and Resilience as well as Observatory Signal also appear in Nexus Reports.

Draft to published version.

Canvas · draft to published versionDesign, not a record
Research and publications: an edition from outline to correctionAn outline is agreed; chapters are drafted; every value is traced in the data check; peer reviewers with declared conflicts review; the editor decides; the edition is released with an identifier and corrected only by new versions. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Landscapes and remoteness in Brazil.

Mountain ranges, deserts, wetlands, glaciers and reefs, and how remote each division is from large cities, shown for Brazil as an example geography for this subject.

04What is published

Every output shows its status.

  • Each publication carries its authors, date, method, evidence labels and editorial status.
  • Corrections create a new version with its history.
  • Series contributions also appear in Nexus Reports; see Publish in Nexus Reports.
05Output types

What biodiversity publications look like.

Biodiversity publications report physical evidence (extent, condition, service flows) before any money values, state the ecosystem classification used, and generalise sensitive species locations. Accounting notes follow the SEEA Ecosystem Accounting structure so statistics offices can reuse them.

  • Ecosystem accounting notes.
  • Monitoring method notes.
  • Nature chapters in Global Sector editions.

Peer reviewEvaluation of a work by independent experts in the field before publication.
CorrectionA published notice that amends an error in a work whose main findings stand.
Evidence labelA tag on an assertion naming the kind of evidence behind it, such as observed, officially reported or modelled.
