01In brief

The short answer.

Digital Public Infrastructure regional applications address problems in the digital public infrastructure field that the countries of a region share, such as digital payments and services, and the cooperation that responds to them. Each application is listed with its status from the programme record, and regional bodies and governments keep their own mandates and decisions.

Regional subject applications: a programme through its gatesA request with a named owner becomes a scoping note; inputs are qualified at a gate; delivery runs in workstreams; a controlled test and an independent review precede publication; the owner decides. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Connected activity in India.

For regional subject applications, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on night lights, population density and true-colour imagery with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on India; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

05Regional frame

Where regional cooperation on DPI happens.

Regional DPI work serves central banks and digital agencies linking systems across borders: payment interlinking, identity interoperability and regional data frameworks. A specialist looks for governance and safeguards that travel with the data, drawing on payments technology and the interoperability topic. Regional work never pools personal data across borders.

Cross-border interoperability of identity and payments is negotiated regionally.

  • Regional payment interlinking.
  • Regional identity interoperability.
  • Regional data frameworks.
06Status

Work is shown as its record stands.

Programmes are listed as exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived. Country and regional entries appear when a programme record supports them.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
SubsidiarityThe principle that a decision is taken at the lowest level able to take it well, with a higher level acting only where the objective cannot be achieved closer to the people concerned; the Treaty on European Union states it.
Multi-level governanceShared decision-making across local, regional, national and international levels of government.
Government-to-person paymentA payment from government to an individual, such as a wage, pension or social transfer.
