Mandate and publisher

Food Nexus is published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI). Its mandate is the science of food-system security and resilience: how production, storage, trade and access respond to stress, and what evidence helps institutions prepare. This page sets out who is responsible, what the platform does and does not do, and its current operating state.

01In brief

The short answer.

Food Nexus is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation for food and agriculture, trade, resources and supply chains, and climate and hazards. Its mandate covers food-system security and resilience from land and production through supply chains, nutrition and access. GCRI publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is established and works at service level R0, information and enquiries.

Mandate to authority.

How Food Nexus is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

04Mandate

Science for food systems under stress.

The platform studies food systems as connected chains and publishes evidence that others can check and reuse.

Field

Scope

Food and agriculture, with its links to trade and supply chains and to climate and hazards.

Community

Who takes part

Agricultural scientists, farmers and producer organizations, food processors, nutrition specialists and logistics experts.

Outputs

What it publishes

Food-system vulnerability briefs, agrifood dependency maps and resilience methods.

05Publisher

Who is responsible.

GCRI publishes Food Nexus and answers for its content. GCRI works across Canada and the United States. Editorial responsibility for the platform sits with GCRI's research function and its named subject reviewers.

  • Status: established. Food Nexus is an established platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI). The current service level is R0: information and enquiries.
  • Why a dedicated platform: Food Nexus keeps its existing community and published site, and its existing activity is published as its records are confirmed.
  • Methods, sources and corrections are published at methods and uncertainty and corrections.
06Limits

What Food Nexus does not do.

GCRI is a research, development and policy institution. It is not a regulator, and it does not certify, license or approve; its findings carry their methods and uncertainty.

  • It does not set food safety standards, inspect facilities or approve products, seeds or technologies.
  • It does not distribute food, run emergency operations or issue public warnings.
  • It does not advise on commodity trading or investment. Financial-sector questions belong with The Global Risks Alliance (GRA), for example at Insurance Nexus.
  • Taking part, hosting or sponsorship gives no authority over findings.

Decisions on food policy remain with the competent public authorities. Governance dialogue on land and climate takes place at The Global Risks Forum (GRF), for example at Climate and Nature Governance.
