Safeguarding and complaints

Everyone who takes part in the work of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), including experts, students, volunteers, community members and staff, should be safe and treated fairly. Below: fair process, protection for people who raise concerns, appeal and reporting. Safeguarding concerns use a restricted route, never a public forum or a chatbot. Part of trust and accountability.

02Raise a concern

Two routes, kept separate.

Choose the route that fits. If you are unsure, use the safeguarding route and it will be directed appropriately.

Safeguarding

Safety or wellbeing of a person

Write to safeguarding@therisk.global. A restricted route, handled by a small number of designated people.

Complaints

A decision or how you were treated

Write to integrity@therisk.global. Reviewed by someone not responsible for the contested decision.

Nexus is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

Report to outcome.

How a correction moves on The Global Centre for Risk and InnovationA report is acknowledged and triaged; a reviewer not involved in the original work assesses it; the outcome is a new version with its history or a reasoned decline, and the reporter is told either way. Design of the workflow, not a record.

04Fair process

How a matter is handled.

  1. 01

    Acknowledgement

You receive a reference and the name of the next step. No response time is promised, and urgent risks to a person are prioritized.

  2. 02

    Confidential handling

Information is shared only with those who need it to address the matter, or where the law requires.

  3. 03

    Fair to everyone

People concerned are told what is alleged and can respond, unless that would put someone at risk.

  4. 04

    Reasoned outcome

The outcome is recorded with its reasons.

  5. 05

    Appeal

You can ask for a review of the outcome by someone not involved in the original decision.

05Protection

Raising a concern in good faith is protected.

No one should suffer retaliation for raising a concern in good faith. Retaliation is itself treated as a serious matter. Supervised assignments for students and volunteers exclude unsupervised high-consequence work, and working groups have named supervisors.

Other institutions run their own routes: see GRF participant safeguarding. Related GCRI pages: corrections and concerns and experts, volunteers and students.

06Questions

Questions and answers.

Can I raise a concern anonymously?
You can, though it may limit what can be done if more information is needed. We will tell you if anonymity affects how the matter can be handled.
Will the person I complain about know it was me?
Your identity is protected as far as possible. In some cases fair process or the law requires disclosure, and you will be told before that happens where it is safe to do so.
Does this cover events and online spaces?
Yes. It covers conduct in GCRI work, sessions and online spaces connected to GCRI programmes.
Is there a membership requirement to complain?
No. Anyone affected by GCRI's work can raise a concern or complaint, without membership, an account or payment.

Bring a method, a dataset or a question.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
