Learning and professional development

Learning paths of Health Nexus in health and biosecurity, built on the methods of the STEM Commons and linked to recognized providers.

01In brief

The short answer.

Learning in Health Nexus is the set of paths through which professionals build competence in the health and biosecurity field, starting from the methods it applies, such as epidemiology and public health science as well as molecular and life sciences. Courses are listed once approved, with provider, level and terms; completing one is a learning record, not a professional licence or certification.

Learning and professional development: a working group from charter to sunsetA charter sets the question and the code of conduct; members join with declared interests; a workplan produces deliverables that are reviewed and credited; the group reports and sunsets or renews. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Environmental exposure in Africa.

For learning and professional development, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, true-colour imagery and night lights with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on Africa; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Learning outcomeA statement of what a learner knows, understands and is able to do on completing a learning process, the unit the European Qualifications Framework uses to compare qualifications.
Micro-credentialA record of learning outcomes from a short, assessed course of study.
Continuing professional developmentThe planned maintenance and broadening of a professional's knowledge, skills and judgement throughout a working life, recorded under the rules of the relevant professional body.
Molecular and life sciencesMolecular and life sciences study the structure and function of living systems from genes and proteins to cells and organisms.
