Moderated groups where specialists discuss questions in Society and Human Development. Each group is listed here when its moderation, terms and hosting are in place, with its scope and how to join.
Society and Human Development subject groups are moderated forums where social scientists and humanitarian researchers discuss open questions in the society and human development field, such as poverty and inequality and demographic transitions. Each group is listed once its moderation, terms and hosting are in place, with its scope and how to join. A group informs the platform's work and has no authority over its findings.

For subject groups, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, true-colour imagery and night lights with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on Latin America and the Caribbean; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.
The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

Human development groups pair social scientists and statisticians with humanitarian practitioners and community representatives, because vulnerability measured without the people concerned is often wrong.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |
| Chatham House Rule | A rule under which participants may use information received but may not reveal the identity or affiliation of speakers. |
| Human security | Freedom from fear, freedom from want and freedom to live in dignity, as set out by the UN General Assembly. |
| Poverty line | A threshold of income or consumption below which a person is counted as poor. |

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
