Purpose and publisher

Nexus Registry is published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), working across Canada and the United States. This page sets out why the Registry exists, who answers for it, what authority it holds and where that authority stops. In short, the Registry keeps records consistent and honest about their status; owners keep authority over what their records say. It is an established platform operating at service level R0: information and enquiries.

01In brief

The short answer.

Nexus Registry is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation for governance and institutions as well as research and evidence. Its mandate covers public-safe records of programmes, evidence, publication status and correction histories, subject to owner authority. GCRI publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is established and works at service level R0, information and enquiries.

How Nexus Registry is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

03Geography

People and hazards in World.

For purpose and publisher, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on true-colour imagery, population density and night lights, framed on World; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

04Purpose

Why a Consortium needs one record layer.

Nexus Consortium work is produced by many institutions, in several regions and under different legal systems. Without a common record layer, the same programme could be described as active on one site and in formation on another, and a corrected figure could survive uncorrected in a dozen copies. Nexus Registry exists to give every programme, publication, piece of evidence and correction a stable identity, a traceable origin and a kept history.

Its work follows the methods described in record provenance, correction and versioning and evidence classes.

05Publisher

Who answers for the Registry.

Publisher

GCRI

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation publishes the Registry and answers for its methods, schemas and public views.

Owners

Record owners

The institution or person with authority over a record's content decides what it says and whether it is released.

Stewards

Registry stewards

Stewards check completeness, schema conformity and rights before release, and keep each record's history.

GCRI is a research, development and policy institution. It is not a regulator, and it does not certify, license or approve.

06Limits

What the Registry does not do.

  • It does not decide a programme's state. Participants with authority decide; the Registry records the decision and its evidence.
  • It does not certify, endorse or approve any record, programme, publication or person.
  • It does not publish a record without its owner's release and a rights check.
  • It does not share records across the three pillar institutions except as the owner directs and the law allows.
  • A participation record is not a credential, a licence or an employment record.
07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Service level R0The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment.
Conflict of interestA situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review.
ProvenanceInformation about the entities, activities and people involved in producing a record, used to judge its quality and reliability, in the W3C PROV model.
Persistent identifierA long-lasting reference to a digital object, person or organisation, such as a DOI, ORCID iD or ROR ID, that resolves even when locations change.
08Status

Established, at R0.

Nexus Registry is an established platform. Its record model, programme states, provenance rules, rights classes and interface plans are published. No public record is released yet, and no interface is open. Records and interfaces are listed on public records and interfaces as each is released. Governance and trust information sits on Registry trust, and the Registry's place in the Consortium is set out on the Nexus Registry home.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Is Nexus Registry a separate organization?
No. It is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), which publishes it.
Can the Registry change a record without the owner?
Only to correct a technical fault in how a record is displayed, which is itself recorded. Changes to content are the owner's decision and are kept as new versions.
How do the other pillar institutions use the Registry?
The programme states it defines are the same on the consortium pages of all three institutions. Governance counterparts such as Governance Nexus at The Global Risks Forum (GRF) convene on how records support accountability.
Who do I contact?
Write to contact@therisk.global or see Registry contact routes. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.

Bring your expertise to this field.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
