01In brief

The short answer.

Systemic Risk Management subject groups are moderated forums where ERM leaders and risk scientists discuss open questions in the risk management and systemic risk field, such as risk governance and appetite and identification and risk taxonomy. Each group is listed once its moderation, terms and hosting are in place, with its scope and how to join. A group informs the platform's work and has no authority over its findings.

Subject groups: a working group from charter to sunsetA charter sets the question and the code of conduct; members join with declared interests; a workplan produces deliverables that are reviewed and credited; the group reports and sunsets or renews. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

People and exposure in Asia.

For subject groups, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, true-colour imagery and night lights with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on Asia; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

04How it works

Subject groups in Systemic Risk Management.

  • Each entry shows its scope, host or owner, and terms.
  • Participation follows published rules, applied equally.
  • Taking part gives no authority or influence over findings.
05Group themes

Subjects where risk management specialists most need a shared forum.

Risk practitioners rarely compare registers across organisations. The groups exist for that comparison: how national assessments and enterprise registers describe the same risk, where their taxonomies diverge, and which shared dependencies neither sees alone.

  • National risk assessment practice.
  • Enterprise risk and continuity.
  • Quantitative risk methods.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Community of practiceA group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning.
Chatham House RuleA rule under which participants may use information received but may not reveal the identity or affiliation of speakers.
Cascading riskRisk that a failure in one system or component triggers failures in others that depend on it.
Risk toleranceThe acceptable variation in performance around a specific objective or measure, which makes an appetite statement checkable.
