The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI)
How researchers, practitioners and institutions take part in Space and Earth Observation, and what taking part does and does not mean.
Taking part in Space and Earth Observation is open to remote-sensing scientists, space engineers and geospatial analysts and to institutions and national programmes working on space and Earth observation. Experts contribute knowledge, review or data; institutions follow the GCRI participation routes; countries go through the Consortium Secretariat. An enquiry receives a reference and creates no membership, role or influence over findings.

For participation paths, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on true-colour imagery, population density and land cover with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on the Arctic; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.
The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

Contribute expertise, review or data. Write to contact@therisk.global.
Country work goes through the Consortium Secretariat at contact@therisk.global.
Ground validation data are the most valuable contribution: field plots, flood marks or crop observations that test satellite products. Expert review of products and processing chains also helps. Contributions improve the spatial and temporal evidence topic and are analysed with spatial statistics.
Ground validation data and expert review of products are the main contributions.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Declaration of interests | A written statement in which an expert or participant discloses financial, professional and personal interests that could constitute a real, potential or apparent conflict of interest, so that others can judge and manage it; WHO uses this procedure for its experts. |
| Service level R0 | The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment. |
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |
