Rights and licences

This statement sets out the licences that apply to material on therisk.global, the website of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), and the notices for the third-party software, fonts and data the sites use. Unless an item is marked otherwise, GCRI’s institutional text and figures are licensed under CC BY 4.0. The licence stated on an item is the one that applies to it. Requests and rights concerns go to the contact form, and names and logos are covered by the intellectual property and trademark policy.

03Attribution

How to credit GCRI material.

  1. 01

    Recommended credit

“Source: The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI Canada), [title], [date], therisk.global, licensed under CC BY 4.0.” Link the title to its canonical address and the licence to the CC BY 4.0 deed.

  2. 02

    Say what you changed

If you adapt, translate or shorten an item, say so, and do not suggest that GCRI approves your version.

  3. 03

    Keep the labels

Keep a finding’s evidence label, uncertainty and limits, and never present a modelled or scenario figure as an observation.

  4. 04

    Keep third-party credits

Credits and licences of material inside a GCRI item stay with it, and their terms may be stricter than CC BY 4.0.

04Software and fonts

06Requests

Permission and rights concerns.

Ask for permission for uses the licences do not cover, or tell us if you believe material infringes your rights, at the contact form. Copyright notices and takedown requests follow the intellectual property and trademark policy, and contributions follow the contributor terms. Media assets carry their own usage rights, described under press and media.

07Questions

Questions and answers.

Can I reuse a GCRI figure in a presentation or a report?
Yes. Unless the figure is marked otherwise it is licensed under CC BY 4.0, so you may reuse and adapt it with attribution to GCRI Canada, the title, the date and the link. Keep the credits of any third-party data inside it.
Are GCRI datasets open data?
Each dataset carries its own licence in its record. Some include source data with restrictions that GCRI must respect, and those restrictions travel with the data.
Can I use the GCRI name or logo?
Only as the intellectual property and trademark policy allows. The CC BY 4.0 licence does not cover names and logos, and participation in a programme does not grant a right to use them.
Is the website code open source?
Code that GCRI releases as open source carries the licence stated in its repository. The visual and interface designs of the sites are not licensed for reuse.
