Canada and U.S. cooperation

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), working across Canada and the United States. This page sets out how the two cooperate: the written roles each holds, the boundaries of each one's decisions, the shared services that run between them and who is responsible for what is published on therisk.global. The rule throughout is simple. Each organization keeps its own legal identity, and when one acts alone, the page names it. Return to About GCRI.

01In brief

The short answer.

The Canada and U.S. cooperation page sets out how GCRI Canada and GCRI US work together: the written roles each holds, the limits of each one's decisions, the shared services GCRI Canada provides under written agreements, and who answers for what is published on therisk.global. Each keeps its own legal identity, and when one acts alone, the page says so.

Mandate to authority.

Canvas · mandate to authorityDesign, not a record
How The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Each decides within its own authority.

  • Neither organization is the parent, agent or employer of the other.
  • Commitments bind only the organization that makes them, under its own governance.
  • A shared name or a shared page does not transfer a status, a membership or an obligation from one to the other.
  • Where both take part in the same work, the agreement names each one's responsibilities.
06Shared services

Services GCRI Canada provides, under written agreements.

As global contracting party, GCRI Canada offers GCRI US the same support it offers the consortiums. Listing an area does not mean that an agreement for it has been executed.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Consortium agreementA contract among the members of a consortium that sets their roles, governance, contributions, intellectual property and dispute rules for joint work.
Data controllerThe person or body that decides the purposes and means of processing personal data and answers for that processing under data protection law, in the GDPR's definition.

08Publisher

Who is responsible for this website.

GCRI Canada is the controller under the privacy notice of therisk.global and is responsible for its publication. Pages about GCRI US are prepared with GCRI US, and content that speaks for GCRI US alone says so. Enquiries are used to answer them and keep a record, and are never shared with The Global Risks Forum or The Global Risks Alliance, which publish their own notices. The counterpart description from the other side is GRA's role in the Consortium. See GCRI Canada and GCRI US.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Why does GCRI have two organizations?
GCRI works in Canada and the United States, and each organization holds its own legal identity and responsibilities in its jurisdiction while carrying one institutional mandate.
Does a GCRI status apply to both organizations?
Statuses are published as GCRI's, in their recorded wording. They do not extend to GRF, GRA or participating institutions.
Who answers an enquiry?
Programme enquiries reach the Secretariat at contact@therisk.global. Enquiries for GCRI US alone can go to gcrius@therisk.global.
What happens if the two organizations disagree?
Each decides within its own authority, and neither can bind the other. Where both are party to the same work, the written agreement sets out how a disagreement is raised and resolved, and the record of the outcome is kept.

Start with an enquiry.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
