The Asia and the Pacific programme spans dense manufacturing and logistics networks, large monsoon and glacier-fed basins, and Pacific island states facing compound climate and connectivity risk. The East Asia Nexus Consortium programme, in formation, sits within this region. Work is organised by subregion so that national programmes can compare semiconductor, port, energy and hazard dependencies without merging their data or authority. The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) coordinates the region as Consortium Secretariat. It is recorded as in formation, with three planned hubs that are coordination roles, not offices. The Asia and the Pacific region of Nexus Consortiums spans dense manufacturing and logistics networks, monsoon and glacier-fed basins, and Pacific island states facing compound climate and connectivity risk. Work is organized by subregion so national programmes can compare dependencies without merging data or authority; the region is in formation, with the East Asia programme forming inside it.
Where people and networks concentrate, the exposure through which shocks travel between systems, in Pacific Island states.
Each planned hub coordinates shared-system work for a group of countries. No hub host decision is on record, so each is a planned coordination role rather than an operating site.
| Planned hub | Countries covered | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| India | India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka | Monsoon and heat, river systems, food, health, digital infrastructure, grids and Indian Ocean connections. |
| Singapore | Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Viet Nam, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu | Import dependencies, ports, urban continuity, digital systems and finance. |
| Japan | Japan, China, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Democratic People's Republic of Korea | Seismic and tsunami resilience, manufacturing, robotics, ageing, energy and supply chains. |
Pacific island states are covered with Southeast Asia by the planned Singapore hub, so that island connectivity and import dependencies are examined together.
Finance-readiness questions for the region's financial centres are translated by The Global Risks Alliance (GRA), which never lends, underwrites, rates or invests: catastrophe and protection-gap questions for typhoon, flood and earthquake exposure; supply-chain concentration in electronics and critical inputs; technology and compute concentration in regional financial infrastructure. See GRA's regional programmes.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Small island developing states | A UN-recognised group of island countries sharing social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. |
| Compound event | Two or more hazards or drivers occurring together or in sequence whose joint impact exceeds what either would cause alone, such as drought followed by intense rain; IPCC assessments use the term. |
| Chokepoint | A narrow passage or node through which a large share of trade must pass. |
| Programme status | The recorded state of a programme on Nexus pages: exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived. A plan is never presented as an activity. |
State on record: in formation. No regional host is on record. The East Asia Nexus Consortium programme sits within this region: its public programme page is published by The Global Risks Alliance (GRA), it is in formation, and its formation records and participating structures are confirmed by the Secretariat before they are listed here. The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. Enquiries about the region go to the regional desk at asiapacific@therisk.global, or to the Secretariat at contact@therisk.global; the acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step. Programme engagement follows the sanctions and eligibility policy of Nexus Foundry, and no desk or call to action is offered where engagement is not available.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
