01In brief

The short answer.

Disaster Resilience and Recovery programmes organize its work on disaster and crisis as well as climate and hazards at three levels: global priorities, regional applications and country work. Each programme shows its recorded status, from exploring and forming to active, paused or archived, and a plan is never presented as an activity. Countries take part through their national programmes and the Consortium Secretariat.

Programmes and projects: a programme through its gatesA request with a named owner becomes a scoping note; inputs are qualified at a gate; delivery runs in workstreams; a controlled test and an independent review precede publication; the owner decides. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Hazards now in the Philippines.

For programmes and projects, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on flood water, population density, active fires and true-colour imagery, framed on the Philippines; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

05Three levels

How disaster risk work is organised globally, regionally and nationally.

Disaster risk reduction is framed globally by Sendai, coordinated regionally through regional platforms and mechanisms, and implemented nationally and locally by civil protection agencies and municipalities.

  • Global: Sendai monitoring, shared terminology and methods.
  • Regional: regional platforms, mutual assistance and shared warning systems.
  • National: national strategies, local plans, warning services and recovery frameworks.
06Status

Every programme shows where it stands.

A programme is shown as exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived, according to its record. A plan is never presented as an activity.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
ProgrammeA group of related projects and activities managed together to obtain benefits that managing them separately would not, in the sense the Project Management Institute's programme standard uses.
Programme statusThe recorded state of a programme on Nexus pages: exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived. A plan is never presented as an activity.
Country ownershipThe principle that a country leads its own development policies and strategies and coordinates the actions that support them, set out in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
DisasterA serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society due to hazardous events interacting with exposure, vulnerability and capacity.

10Questions

Questions and answers.

How does a country take part?
Through its national programme. Country enquiries go to the Consortium Secretariat at contact@therisk.global or a regional desk.
