01In brief

The short answer.

Disaster Resilience and Recovery is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation for disaster and crisis as well as climate and hazards. Its mandate covers risk reduction, readiness, emergency systems and recovery capacities across communities and institutions. GCRI publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is in development at service level R0, and activities open as each is ready.

Mandate to authority.

How Disaster Resilience and Recovery is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

03Geography

People and hazards in the Philippines.

For mandate and publisher, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, flood water and true-colour imagery with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on the Philippines; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

04Mandate

Evidence on readiness, response and recovery.

The platform exists to strengthen the evidence base for risk reduction, preparedness, emergency systems and recovery across communities and institutions. Its focus is institutional and social capacity: whether arrangements work when tested, and which recovery choices leave places safer.

Field

Scope

Disaster and crisis, with links to climate and hazards.

Community

Who takes part

Disaster scholars, emergency planners, recovery specialists and humanitarian analysts.

Outputs

What it is designed to publish

Preparedness evidence guides, recovery case studies and capacity models.

05Publisher

Who is responsible.

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) publishes Disaster Resilience and Recovery and answers for its content, under the review and correction rules set out in trust, rights and status.

  • Status: Disaster Resilience and Recovery is in development. Activities, records and services are published as each one opens.
  • Service level: R0, information and enquiries.
  • Why a dedicated platform: preparedness and institutional recovery have their own research community and methods, distinct from physical hazard modelling at Climate and Hazards.
06Limits

What the platform does not do.

  • It does not regulate, license, certify or approve any plan, organization or product.
  • It does not issue warnings, declare emergencies or direct response; those belong to competent authorities.
  • It does not arrange or approve finance. Disaster finance is examined as sector understanding at Disaster Risk Finance at GRA, and governance dialogue happens at Disaster and Crisis Governance at GRF.
  • It does not publish personal data about people affected by disasters, and case studies are anonymised unless consent is recorded.

Taking part, hosting or sponsorship gives no authority or influence over findings.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Service level R0The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment.
Conflict of interestA situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review.
DisasterA serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society due to hazardous events interacting with exposure, vulnerability and capacity.
Disaster risk reductionPreventing new and reducing existing disaster risk and managing residual risk, contributing to resilience and sustainable development.
08How it is designed to work

From question to reviewed evidence.

  1. 01

    Questions

Research questions come from the platform's topics and from practitioners, and are scoped in research and evidence.

  2. 02

    Evidence

Methods and sources are stated in methods and uncertainty, with loss data, case evidence and exercise records each labelled by type.

  3. 03

    Review

Findings are reviewed by named subject specialists before publication, and conflicts of interest are declared.

  4. 04

    Publication

Reviewed outputs appear on the publications page, and corrections are recorded as new versions.
