Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chapter | In the Nexus network, a specialist sub-community inside a platform with its own group, editor and research agenda; it can become its own platform only by meeting the published graduation rule. |
| Graduation rule | The published ten-point test a chapter must meet, including sustained activity, editorial capacity, distinct scope, rights controls and operating ownership, before it becomes a separate platform. |
| Community of practice | A group of people who share a concern or a craft and learn to do it better by interacting regularly; the term comes from Lave and Wenger's work on situated learning. |

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
