Every output shows its status.

  • Each publication carries its authors, date, method, evidence labels and editorial status.
  • Corrections create a new version with its history.
  • Series contributions also appear in Reports; see Publish in Reports.
03Output types

What laboratory publications look like.

Labs publications serve researchers and engineers who must decide whether a method is ready to leave the laboratory. A specialist looks for the pre-stated question and criteria, deviations from protocol and the null results. Reports appear in Labs Evidence and Methods and Technical, rest on probability and statistics and uncertainty quantification, and follow the reproducibility and negative results practice.

  • Experiment protocols registered before results.
  • Experiment reports with deviations from plan.
  • Method notes for techniques that move to production.
