STEM foundation of Agency

The science, technology, engineering and mathematics Agency rests on. Each method has a canonical page in the STEM Commons, hosted by the Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), and a page here on how it is applied in this field.

03Method mix

Why technical assistance needs this combination of methods.

Agency work applies systems engineering to scope assignments, define interfaces between experts and institutions and trace deliverables to requirements, and decision analysis to prioritise requests when expert capacity is limited. Both matter because technical assistance most often fails at the interfaces and at prioritisation, not in the technical content, as the team formation topic shows.

Agency work rests on systems engineering for scoping and integrating assignments and decision analysis for prioritising them.

04Why it matters

Grounding makes claims checkable.

When a finding names the methods it depends on, a reader can see its assumptions and limits, and an expert in that method can challenge it.
