Purpose and publisher

Nexus Reports is published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) as the single governed publication programme of the Nexus Consortiums. Its purpose is to make the Consortium's research public in a form that readers can check, cite and reuse. This page sets out who is responsible for it, how its independence is protected and the limits of what a report is.

01In brief

The short answer.

Nexus Reports is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation for research and evidence. Its mandate covers versioned research and public knowledge spanning global, national, sector, technology and annual programme findings. GCRI publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is established and works at service level R0, information and enquiries.

Mandate to authority.

How Nexus Reports is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

03Geography

Hazards and exposure in World.

For purpose and publisher, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on true-colour imagery, population density and night lights, framed on World; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

04Purpose

Why the programme exists.

Public knowledge

Accessible research

Accessible editions, reusable figures and permitted data, so that findings reach people who do not read journals.

Accountability

Checkable claims

Sources, methods, evidence labels and uncertainty stated with every claim.

Memory

Permanent versions

Editions and corrections kept as permanent records, so later work can trace what was known and when.

05Publisher

Who is responsible.

GCRI publishes Nexus Reports and answers for its content. GCRI works across Canada and the United States. Each edition names its publisher, editors and authors.

  • Status: established. The current service level is R0: information and enquiries.
  • Why a dedicated platform: Nexus Reports keeps its existing community and published site, and its existing activity is published as its records are confirmed.
  • Editorial rules are set out on editorial governance and methods and publication process.
06Limits

What a report is not.

GCRI is a research, development and policy institution. It is not a regulator, and it does not certify, license or approve; its findings carry their methods and uncertainty.

  • A report is independent analysis, not a decision, regulation or official statement of any government unless that government authorizes it in writing.
  • A scenario is an exploration, not a forecast; a readiness report describes fitness for a stated next step and is not approval, bankability or certification.
  • Funding, hosting or contribution confers no right to change or block a finding.
  • A report planned is not a report released.
  • A readiness edition describes fitness for a stated next step only.
  • Nexus Reports does not publish advertising, paid placements or sponsored content presented as research.
07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Service level R0The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment.
Conflict of interestA situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review.
Evidence synthesisThe structured collection, appraisal and combination of evidence from many studies to answer a question.
Calibrated languageFixed terms for confidence and likelihood tied to stated meanings, as in the IPCC guidance note on uncertainties.
08Working with others

Contributions across the Consortium.

Specialist platforms at GCRI, The Global Risks Forum (GRF) and The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) contribute to series within their mandates. Research agendas are discussed with Research Nexus at GRF. Contributions follow the same review, sourcing and disclosure rules, whichever institution they come from, and each edition states which platforms contributed and in what role.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Is Nexus Reports a separate organization?
No. It is a platform of GCRI and has no separate legal identity.
Who can write for Nexus Reports?
Authors are people who made a substantial contribution and can answer for the content. Contributions are invited through series editors; an offer is not a commission until confirmed in writing.
How do I contact the editors?

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
