STEM foundation of Food Nexus

The science, technology, engineering and mathematics Food Nexus rests on. Each method has a canonical page in the STEM Commons, hosted by the Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), and a page here on how it is applied in this field.

03Method mix

Why food system needs this combination of methods.

Food risk runs from soils and weather to diets, so the method mix spans agricultural science and ecology for production, Earth observation and spatial statistics for where it happens, forecasting for when, econometrics for prices, and optimisation for how scarce supply is allocated. Hydrology and environmental engineering link it to water.

04Why it matters

Grounding makes claims checkable.

When a finding names the methods it depends on, a reader can see its assumptions and limits, and an expert in that method can challenge it.

What is a steward platform?
The platform that maintains the canonical description of a method and reviews how it is applied across the Consortium.
