01In brief

The short answer.

Learning in Water Nexus is the set of paths through which professionals build competence in the water field, starting from the methods it applies, such as hydrology and water science as well as water and environmental engineering. Courses are listed once approved, with provider, level and terms; completing one is a learning record, not a professional licence or certification.

From enquiry to contribution.

Learning and professional development: a working group from charter to sunsetA charter sets the question and the code of conduct; members join with declared interests; a workplan produces deliverables that are reviewed and credited; the group reports and sunsets or renews. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Water now in the Nile Basin.

For learning and professional development, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on population density, night lights and true-colour imagery with relief in 3D and true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on the Nile Basin; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Learning outcomeA statement of what a learner knows, understands and is able to do on completing a learning process, the unit the European Qualifications Framework uses to compare qualifications.
Micro-credentialA record of learning outcomes from a short, assessed course of study.
Continuing professional developmentThe planned maintenance and broadening of a professional's knowledge, skills and judgement throughout a working life, recorded under the rules of the relevant professional body.
Water and environmental engineeringWater and environmental engineering designs systems for water supply, wastewater treatment, drainage and pollution control.
