02Mandate

The science of water as a connected system.

Water Nexus exists to make evidence about water systems usable and checkable by the people who manage them, and to show where that evidence stops.

Field

Scope

Water, with its links to climate and hazards and to critical infrastructure: catchments, groundwater, extremes, drinking water and sanitation, utilities, shared basins, energy and food.

Community

Who takes part

Basin scientists, water utilities, municipal engineers, water agencies and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) researchers.

Outputs

What it is designed to publish

Watershed research briefs, public-safe basin maps and utility resilience case studies.

03Publisher

Who is responsible.

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) publishes Water Nexus and answers for its content. GCRI Canada is the lead contracting organisation.

  • Editorial responsibility sits with the platform’s subject editors, who review each topic page and output before release.
  • Water Nexus is the steward of the STEM Commons pages for hydrology and water science and water and environmental engineering, which other platforms rely on.
  • Corrections and concerns go through the corrections route, and the platform’s rights and status are set out on trust, rights and status.
04Role limits

What Water Nexus does not do.

  • It does not regulate water services, set drinking water standards or allocate water rights.

  • It is not an emergency or incident service, and it issues no operational warnings.
  • Taking part, sponsoring or hosting gives no authority over findings.
  • Governance questions are convened at The Global Risks Forum (GRF), for example through Climate and Nature Governance; financial-sector questions belong with The Global Risks Alliance (GRA).
