Competence and expertise
Agency matches people to work by documented competence, not by title or affiliation. This page, published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), describes the fields in which the programme is designed to look for candidate specialists and who is eligible to put themselves forward. The fields follow the platforms of the specialist network and the methods in the STEM Commons, so a candidate’s skills can be read against a real question. Information and enquiries are open today.

Who can put themselves forward.
- Senior experts, reviewers and technical contributors, for bounded assignments and review roles.
- Practitioners in government, operators, industry and civil society, for work in their own field.
- Students, early-career researchers and volunteers, for supervised tasks with a mentor and a learning plan, never an unsupervised high-consequence assignment.
- Institutions that can second staff under their own terms.
Eligibility is subject to the programme’s sanctions and eligibility policy, conflict declarations and the safeguarding rules for the work concerned.
Expertise also flows through the national working groups.
In each national programme, the National Working Groups (NWG) gather experts and delivery teams by competence, without a fee. They are separate from the National Leadership Council (NLC) and from institutional participation in the National Nexus Consortium (NNC). See national working groups.
Tell us what you know and what you have done.
Write to the expert application form with your fields, methods and an outline of relevant work. Do not send identity documents or sensitive personal data at this stage. Your enquiry is used to answer you and to keep a record; it is never used for marketing or shared with GRF or GRA. Experts and students can also see GCRI pathways for experts and students.
