Open science in the lab network.
Everything the lab network publishes is open by default: teaching material, code and data under open licences, deposited with a DOI, described to open metadata standards and cited in a form any reader can reuse.

Metadata fetched at build time; no tracking on view
Five commitments.
Open by default
Outputs are released under open licences. A closed output is the exception, stated with its reason before work starts.
Findable and reusable
Each output has a DOI, a licence and metadata to the NS-3b dataset metadata profile.
Versioned, never overwritten
A change is a new version with its own DOI; the concept DOI always resolves to the latest.
Cited and credited
Authors, labs and reviewers are named; citation follows NS-2 citation and attribution.
Personal data stay closed
No personal or sensitive data are released openly. Aggregated or anonymised data only, with the method stated.
Which licence for which output.
| Output | Default licence | Also accepted | Identifier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lessons, exercises, briefs | CC BY 4.0 | CC BY-SA 4.0 | Zenodo DOI for the material set |
| Code and notebooks | Apache 2.0 | MIT, BSD 3-Clause, GPL 3.0 | DOI per release; software metadata to NS-12 |
| Datasets | CC0 1.0 | CC BY 4.0, ODbL 1.0 | DOI per version; metadata to NS-3b |
| Papers and reports | CC BY 4.0 | The journal's open licence | The publisher's DOI; a preprint or accepted manuscript deposited |
| Records in the Foundry fabric | As above | A UNI under NS-1 and NS-16, cited as kit section 6.14 sets out |
Deposited outputs, with DOI, version, licence and files.
Records come from the Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) community on Zenodo, read when the site is built. Each offers its citation in four formats.
The GCRI community on Zenodo is not configured yet, so no publications or datasets are listed. When its identifier is set, each record appears here with its DOI, version, licence and files.
Nothing is deposited in the community yet.
How a lab deposits an output.
Use Zenodo, an open repository run by CERN that issues DOIs, unless your institution's repository does the same.
- 01
Prepare the files
Open formats (CSV, GeoTIFF, NetCDF, Parquet, PDF, plain-text code), a README, a licence file and a CITATION.cff for code.

Check rights and data
Confirm you hold the rights, third-party material is cleared and no personal data remain.

Submit to the community
Request inclusion in the GCRI community on Zenodo. Curators check the licence and metadata before accepting.

Publish and get the DOI
Zenodo issues a version DOI and a concept DOI. Cite the version you used; link the concept DOI for the latest.

Link it
Add the DOI to the module's reading, the lab profile and any paper that uses it.

A correction or update is a new version with a change note; the earlier version stays available.

Cite everything; make everything citable.
Every reference on these pages is rendered by one component: CSL-JSON in; APA, Chicago, BibTeX and RIS out; the DOI linked to doi.org; an open-access link when an open copy is known; and the UNI with its citation when a record carries one, following NS-2 and the UNI rules of NS-1.
| Element | Shown when | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Citation | Always | APA 7 on the page; APA, Chicago, BibTeX and RIS under Cite this |
| DOI | The record has one | doi:10.… linked to https://doi.org/ |
| Open access | An open copy is known when the site is built | A dot and the link to the open version, with its version |
| UNI | The record carries an NS-1 UNI | The UNI in mono, linked to the resolver, and its citation |
| Source and licence of the metadata | Always | The index it came from and its licence |
Offer a dataset for teaching.
Tell us what it covers, its licence and whether it holds personal data.
- 01
Send the offer
You receive a reference.
- 02
Licence and documentation check
We confirm the licence, format and README.
- 03
Personal data check
Anything personal is declined for open release.
- 04
Deposit and link
Deposited with a DOI and linked from the programme.
An offer received is queued for review, not accepted. Answers are handled under the privacy notice.

Reference
Received for processing. Your reference is shown above. We review every offer and write to you with the next step; a reference is not an acceptance.
This confirms that this site saved your answers. It is not a decision on what you sent.
Where lab work goes next.
Open outputs are taught at the Academy, described to the Standards and can be proposed to the Index.
- Risk AcademyCourses and pathwaysContributed modules are published on Risk Academy, the estate's learning platform, inside its faculties and course catalogue.
- Nexus StandardsOpen standardsCitation (NS-2), identifiers (NS-1, NS-16) and dataset metadata (NS-3b) that lab outputs follow, and the risk standards a module teaches.
- The IndexThe Global Risks Index (NXS-GRX)Open country and place risk evidence. Lab datasets and methods can be proposed as sources through the Index's own contribution forms.
Questions about open science.
Why Zenodo?
Can a dataset be open but embargoed?
What does the page send to third parties when I open it?
Contribute evidence from this page.
Reports is the Consortium's quarterly publication. What you know about this subject can become evidence, a case or a correction in the next edition, credited to you and published under CC BY 4.0 where it is your own work.
- EmailGateway GW-GCRISend it from this pageEvidence, a correction, a case, a method, a review, a translation or profile input. It arrives tagged with this page, so the editor who owns it receives it.
- ZenodoOpen depositDeposit it and submit to the communityPublish your own record on Zenodo with your ORCID iD, then submit it to the Reports community there. Curators review it; the DOI stays yours.
- ReportsGCRISee every way to contributeThe contribution types, how each is reviewed, what credit you receive, the licence and what is never accepted.
Never send personal data, sensitive infrastructure detail or anything you have no right to share. A contribution is reviewed before use; sending it confers no authorship or editorial rights, and sponsorship never buys a finding.

Offer a dataset or deposit a lab output in the community. The DOI makes it citable from every Academy course that uses it.
