Research laboratories

Nexus Labs, a platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), organizes its research into laboratory families, each grouping the experiments, methods and testbeds of one domain. This page shows the laboratory families by charter status: chartered where a charter record exists, in development where it does not. A family listed as in development describes its intended scope until its charter is recorded. The current service level is R0: information and enquiries.

01In brief

The short answer.

Nexus Labs laboratory families group the experiments, methods and testbeds of one research domain. Each family is shown by charter status, chartered where a charter record exists and in development where it does not, and a family in development describes only its intended scope.

02Geography

People and exposure in World.

For research laboratories, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on true-colour imagery, land cover and population density with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on World; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

No laboratory family has a charter on record yet. Status changes to approved only when a charter is adopted and recorded.

04Common model

Every laboratory shares the same foundations.

Protocols

One research design standard

Hypotheses, controls and review follow protocols and research design.

Reproducibility

Records, not claims

Each result is backed by the protocol, the runs and the reproduction attempts behind it.

Corrections

Corrections that travel

When a result is corrected or withdrawn, dependent work is traced so its owners can act.

05Openness

Openness governs access, never validity.

Each laboratory project selects an openness profile: open, consortium-shared, confidential or restricted. The profile decides who can see the work. It never changes whether a result is valid, and it never prevents a negative finding from being recorded.

06Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Research infrastructureFacilities, resources and services used by researchers, often shared across institutions.
TestbedA controlled setting, from a lab rig to a field site or sandbox, for trying a technology before it meets real conditions of use.
Interdisciplinary researchResearch that integrates data, methods, concepts or theories from two or more disciplines to answer a question none could answer alone.
07Technical base

Where the laboratories run.

Laboratories are designed to run in the Labs system of Nexus Foundry, with versioned lab packs that add workbench modules and acceptance tests while identity, evidence and handoff stay common. Results that pass review can be handed to the Factory system for engineering, through a promotion gate that can only deny or block.

08Questions

Questions and answers.

Can my university join a laboratory family?
Write to research@therisk.global. Universities can also see GCRI pathways for universities.
What does approved mean for a laboratory?
That a charter naming its lead, host, scope, ethics arrangements and review plan has been adopted and recorded. Approval by GCRI is not regulatory approval of any method or product.
Are lab results certifications?
No. Experiment and testbed results are evidence with stated limits. GCRI does not certify, license or approve.
Can a laboratory work with confidential data?
Yes, under a confidential or restricted openness profile and the data owner's terms. Where data cannot move, the experiment can run where the data is held, returning receipts rather than raw data.
How is a new laboratory family proposed?
Write to research@therisk.global with the domain, the questions, the methods and the people who would lead it. The proposal is reviewed against the platform's scope before any charter is drafted.
