GCRI · Work with GCRI

Infrastructure and industry

Utilities, infrastructure and essential-service operators, manufacturers and industry associations can work with The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) on dependency and resilience evidence, research and development, and safe trials. Work starts from an operational mission and ends with a handoff. The operator keeps its assets and decisions. No membership grants access to production systems. Part of Work with GCRI.

02What the work produces

Evidence, R&D and safe trials.

Each piece of work is scoped to an operational question the operator owns.

Evidence

Dependency studies

Which services depend on which assets and suppliers, linked to infrastructure dependencies.

R&D

Applied research

Methods and tools developed with the operator, with rights agreed at the start.

Trials

Controlled tests

Test designs with stop rules, run in controlled settings before anything touches live operations.

03Routes

Two starting points.

WhoFirst stepFirst outcome
Utilities, infrastructure and essential-service operatorsSubmit an operationally grounded missionA dependency study, a controlled test design, options and limitations and a handoff to the operator
Enterprises, manufacturers and industry associationsExplore a sector programmeA work scope, permitted data exchange, evaluation terms and an operational output
04Process

How the process runs.

Process

Infrastructure and industry: Working group, charter to sunset

A working group is chartered by record for a fixed timebox, delivers bounded assignments, drafts and recommends, then dissolves unless renewed; it does not adopt.

  1. 01 Form

    1. 01NLC proposes the groupDecision · National Leadership CouncilThe NLC proposes working groups and nominates chairs, editors and experts from its leadership pools. It does not charter.
    2. 02Charter by recordDecision · National Standards CouncilA working group is chartered by record for a timebox of at most twenty-four months. The charter sets its scope, roles and decision rule.
    3. 03Members join by competenceStep · MembersExperts, practitioners, students and volunteers join by competence. Members declare interests and recuse on conflict.
  2. 02 Work

    1. 04Workplan from the national agendaStepAssignments come from the national agenda and the year’s missions. Each states the competence it needs and how the work will be reviewed.
    2. 05Drafts and deliverables, delivered monthlyRecordGroups deliver monthly. For standards they draft the national profile and deviation register and run national public comment and pilots.
  3. 03 Review

    1. 06Contribution record and reviewGateEach contribution is recorded and reviewed. A working group drafts and recommends; it does not adopt.
    2. 07Recognition follows the recordRecordContribution records are kept, so that recognition follows the record.
    3. 08National adoption is decided elsewhereDecision · National Standards CouncilThe National Standards Council decides the adoption mode and the national profile. The working group proposes and never decides.
  4. 04 Close

    1. 09Dissolved by default, or renewed by recordDecision · National Standards CouncilA group is dissolved by default at the end of the timebox. The National Standards Council renews or closes it, on the NLC’s proposal.

National Working Groups · National Standards Council · Decision rightsDesigned programme process, not a record of operation. No cycle has run and every programme is at service level R0. A gate is a programme decision, never a public-authority approval, certification or deployment authorisation. No working group is constituted. The charter rules belong to the proposed Nexus Standards working model.

05Terms

What you receive, contribute and can expect.

QuestionAnswer
What you receiveA dependency study, a controlled test design, options with their limits and a handoff
What you contributeAn operational question, permitted data under agreed terms and operator time
CostDetermined in the written terms for each scope, stated with issuer, currency, effective date and scope before any commitment
Who is accountableThe GCRI organisation named in the terms, GCRI Canada or GCRI US
How to leave or raise a concernWithdraw at any time under the agreed terms; concerns go to the integrity concern form
06Role limits

What GCRI does not do.

  • GCRI does not operate, inspect or certify infrastructure
  • Membership never permits production access, and public previews never reveal restricted topology
  • Precompetitive work is designed so that competitors’ confidential information is not exchanged
  • A tested option is not authorisation to deploy it; that decision belongs to the operator

Finance questions about infrastructure are examined by The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) under infrastructure preparedness. Information and enquiries are open today: an enquiry receives a reference, and the acknowledgement names the next step.

07Questions

Questions and answers.

Do we have to share sensitive operational data?
Only what the agreed scope needs, under data terms you approve. Restricted detail never appears in public outputs.
Who owns the results?
Rights are agreed at the start, separating background intellectual property, joint results and third-party material. Public publication requires agreement.
Is there a membership fee?
No fee schedule is published. No one is asked to pay a fee that has not been stated with its issuer, currency, effective date and scope.
How do we start?
Write to the contact form with the operational question and the scope you have in mind.
