Environment and systems

The platforms of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) that study environmental and life-support systems: water, energy, food, health and nature, with climate, hazards, disasters, oceans and systemic risk. Five are established. The rest are in development: real pages, no claim of activity. Each applies named methods to one field. Part of the GCRI specialist network.

04Why grouped

Fields that depend on one another.

These platforms study systems that fail and recover together. The five-system core is explained under water, energy, food, health and nature. Each field has a gateway linking the three institutions, such as the water field gateway and the climate and hazards field gateway.

Shared methods

Meeting on methods

Hydrology, extreme value theory and Earth observation link several platforms, through the STEM Commons.

Shared services

One set of services

All rely on the shared specialist services for records, tests and publications.

05Twin and cascade simulator

Model environment and systems as a system. Run the cascade.

Assembled from the Nexus Standards area profile Disaster and climate risk finance: the hazards it names, the systems and sectors that carry the loss, the controls that dampen it and the data that observe it. Choose the components, pick an initiating hazard and step through the cascade. The Map view places the run on an example geography with open data. Every coupling weight is a stated assumption you can change. A teaching model, not a forecast, an assessment or a certification.

06Status

What established and in development mean.

  1. 01

    Established

The platform publishes at its current address, with its community and publisher named.

  2. 02

    In development

The platform's pages are built at its canonical address. It makes no claim of activity, members or publications until its community, editors, rights controls and operating ownership are in place.

Governance counterparts sit at The Global Risk Forum, for example GRF specialist governance communities; finance counterparts at The Global Risk Alliance, under GRA insurance and banking.

07Questions

Questions and answers.

How do I join one of these platforms?
Start on the platform or write to experts@therisk.global. Experts usually contribute through bounded, supervised assignments; joining a community does not confer membership of a national programme.
Why is Systemic Risk Management in this group?
Because it studies how stress moves between the environmental and life-support systems and the infrastructure and institutions that depend on them.
When will the in-development platforms open?
Each opens when its community, editors, rights controls and operating ownership are in place. No date is promised, and the claims and readiness register records changes.
Who publishes these platforms?
GCRI, through GCRI Canada and GCRI US. Each platform is designed to name its legal publisher.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
