01In brief

The short answer.

Oceans and Coasts publications are the platform's reviewed, citable outputs, such as coastal risk atlas methods, marine dependency briefs and research cases. Each carries its authors, date, method, evidence labels and editorial status, and a correction creates a new version with its history. Contributions to series such as Global Sector Risk and Resilience as well as Observatory Signal also appear in Nexus Reports.

Draft to published version.

Canvas · draft to published versionDesign, not a record
Research and publications: an edition from outline to correctionAn outline is agreed; chapters are drafted; every value is traced in the data check; peer reviewers with declared conflicts review; the editor decides; the edition is released with an identifier and corrected only by new versions. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

04What is published

Every output shows its status.

  • Each publication carries its authors, date, method, evidence labels and editorial status.
  • Corrections create a new version with its history.
  • Series contributions also appear in Nexus Reports; see Publish in Nexus Reports.
05Output types

What ocean and coastal publications look like.

Ocean publications serve coastal planners and marine managers. They include coastal method notes and Observatory Signal notes on marine heatwaves or sea-level anomalies, always stating datum, baseline and scenario. They build on ocean science and Earth observation and on the ocean observation topic.

Ocean publications always state datum, baseline and scenario, and mark disputed maritime boundaries.

  • Coastal method notes.
  • Ocean signal notes.

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Version of recordThe fixed version of a work that a publisher formally declares published; later changes appear as dated corrections or new versions, never as silent edits, in the sense NISO's journal article versions recommendation uses.
Peer reviewEvaluation of a work by independent experts in the field before publication.
CorrectionA published notice that amends an error in a work whose main findings stand.
Evidence labelA tag on an assertion naming the kind of evidence behind it, such as observed, officially reported or modelled.
