01In brief

The short answer.

The Nexus cycle in Nexus Foundry is the eight-step path by which a question in the data and compute field becomes evidence, a Foundry build, an organized community, a controlled test, a publication and a decision taken by the competent authority. Here the evidence step rests on high-performance, cloud and edge computing as well as data engineering, interoperability and stewardship, and findings feed Foundry Build and Readiness.

How work moves in this field: an exercise from design to lessonsObjectives and a scenario are designed with the owner; injects are scripted; players respond in cells while controllers and observers watch; a hot wash and an after-action report turn observations into owned improvements. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

People and exposure in North America.

For how work moves in this field, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on night lights, population density and true-colour imagery, framed on North America; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

How the Nexus cycle runs for Foundry.

Nexus Foundry is the build step of every platform's cycle; within it, a project moves from an authorized scope through data onboarding, build, review and release, with each stage recorded.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Nexus cycleThe eight-step loop by which work moves in every Nexus field: question, evidence, build, organize, test, publish, decide and renew, each step with a named owner.
Competent authorityThe body that a law or regulation designates to exercise a given power or duty, such as a supervisor, a civil protection agency or a ministry; only it can take the decisions the law assigns to it.
Peer reviewEvaluation of a work by independent experts in the field before publication.
Software bill of materialsA machine-readable inventory of the components and dependencies in a piece of software, in formats such as SPDX or CycloneDX.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Who takes the decision at the end?
The competent authority or institution, under its own rules. The cycle supplies evidence and options; it does not decide.
