Regional series

Many risks do not stop at borders: shared basins, power grids, trade corridors, disease and information move between countries. The regional series of Reports, published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), compares countries and examines cross-border evidence across the six regions of the Nexus Consortiums. This page lists regional editions as each is released. No edition is shown until it is released. Information and enquiries are open today.

02The series

One series for shared systems.

Regional editions are published in the Regional Systems series. They draw on national evidence and on the shared-system work of the programme, and they keep each country’s findings separately attributable. Typical questions include a drought that reaches several countries through one river basin, a grid failure that crosses an interconnector, or a port disruption that changes food and fuel prices along a corridor. Each edition states which countries it covers, which data it could and could not use, and who reviewed it.

05Comparison

How countries are compared fairly.

  1. 01

    Compatible methods

Comparisons use methods and data that are compatible across the countries, or say where they are not.

  2. 02

    Separate attribution

Each country’s findings remain attributable to their own sources and reviewers.

  3. 03

    Dissent kept

Where partners disagree, the disagreement is recorded rather than averaged away.

  4. 04

    No ranking

Comparison explains differences in systems, data and context; it never produces a league table or a score for a government.

06Current state

No regional edition is listed yet.

Editions appear here as each is released. Shared-system questions are also described on GCRI shared systems, and regional governance dialogue is convened by The Global Risks Forum (GRF) on GRF regions.

No regional body binds a country, and a regional report binds no government.

08Questions

Questions and answers.

Does a regional report speak for the countries it covers?
No. It is independent analysis under the Reports method. It speaks for a government only if that government authorises it in writing.
Can regional organisations contribute?
Yes, under the same method and disclosures. Write to the research collaboration form.
Can a regional edition use data a country has not released?
No. Each country’s data is used only on its owner’s terms. Where data cannot be shared, analysis can run where the data is held, and the edition says what it could not see.
How are languages handled?
Each edition states the languages it is published in. Translations follow the same review, and the version of record is named.
Where are the regional consortiums today?
The six regional consortiums are recorded as in formation. See programme states for what that means.
