Data and NXS-GRX

A risk number is only as good as the record behind it. NXS-GRX (canonical data, provenance and risk), the risk-data and semantic system of Foundry, is designed to register, standardise, link and score risk data so that every statement can be traced and reproduced. This page, published by The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), explains how data, ontology and time are governed, and which decisions stay with the owners of the data. Information and enquiries are open today.

01Workspace

The workspace for Data and NXS-GRX.

GIS and modelling workspace.Illustrative interface; not live data.

Foundry · GIS and modelling workspace. GIS and modelling workspace: example names and illustrative values, not a record.

Sources

Source passports

Each source is registered with its owner, licence, access policy, update cadence, authority class and known limits before any record is standardised.

Originals

Original records kept

Originals are retained unchanged. Standardised fields are derived from them and linked back, never substituted for them.

Verification

Verification as dimensions

Integrity, conformance, plausibility, corroboration, method, rights and human review are shown separately, not as one badge.

03Ontology and time

Meaning, place and time are part of the record.

The NXS-GRX ontology describes hazards, exposures, vulnerabilities, assets, institutions and their dependencies, with shapes that validate what enters the knowledge graph. Each risk record is bound to a spatial and temporal frame and a scenario branch, so the same asset can carry different states across time and across what-if branches without conflict. Indices and losses are designed to be computed from frozen data cuts with declared methodology versions, so they can be re-run and matched.

04Decisions by the data owner

Decisions that stay with the data owner.

  • Whether data may enter a project at all, and for which purpose.
  • Who may see it, at which level of detail, and whether it may be published.
  • Whether it may be used to train or evaluate models.
  • How long it is kept, and when it is withdrawn.

Original source authority is retained. Programme estimates stay labelled as estimates and never replace published figures.

05Indicators

Nexus indicators carry their own names and units.

NXS-GRX indicators use NXS-GRX-native names and units, with methods and uncertainty published. This page shows no indicator values; values appear only in released products, through Registry public records or Reports series. The scientific context is on GCRI data and NXS-GRX.

06Questions

Questions and answers.

Does NXS-GRX rank countries?
No. NXS-GRX products describe risk with stated methods and uncertainty. Reports is not a ranking, and no score is a judgement of a government.
Can my institution keep control of its data?
Yes. The data owner decides purpose, access, publication, model use and retention, and those decisions travel with the data.
What happens when a source is corrected?
Corrections create new versions with reasons, rather than overwriting history, and dependent products can be traced and updated.
Can I see where a published figure came from?
Released products are designed to resolve each figure to its sources, licences, transformations, model runs, uncertainty and the exact data cut used.
How do I offer a dataset?
Write to the research collaboration form. An offer is not acceptance; the source is registered only after its rights and limits are recorded.
