01In brief

The short answer.

Nexus Labs system is the Nexus Foundry system for governed experiments, reproducible compute, testbeds, benchmarks and research handoffs. It serves 11 platforms, among them Biodiversity Nexus and Nexus Labs, and its stated limit is that experiment results are not certification. Access is through an authorized project with an accountable owner, data terms and a review plan.

02Geography

Digital demand and connectivity in Western Europe.

Urban demand centres and the hubs that anchor digital and data infrastructure, shown for Western Europe as an example geography for this subject.

04The problem it addresses

New methods need a place to fail safely.

Methods and technologies for systemic risk change quickly. An experimental environment with clear separation from production, pre-registered questions and honest reporting of negative results prevents untested methods from reaching decisions.

  • Separation from production data and decisions.
  • Pre-stated questions and evaluation criteria.
  • Publication of negative and null results.

What it exchanges with the other systems.

  • Successful methods move to Factory for hardening.
  • Results published in the Labs Evidence series on Nexus Reports.
07Access

Authorized projects only.

Access requires an authorized project with an accountable owner, data terms and a review plan. Enquiries go to contact@therisk.global.

08Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
TestbedA controlled setting, from a lab rig to a field site or sandbox, for trying a technology before it meets real conditions of use.
Computational reproducibilityRe-running the original data and code and obtaining the reported results.
BenchmarkA fixed set of tasks and scoring rules used to compare model performance.
