Foundry technical gateway

Nexus Foundry is the persistent work environment of Nexus Consortiums. Projects, data, models, maps, analysis and evidence live there all year, across twenty technical systems of ten rooms each. The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) documents Foundry in public and, through GCRI Canada, contracts in support of the national and regional consortiums. Systems, project entry and authorization boundaries are below. Part of Nexus Ecosystem.

02Twenty systems

What each system contributes, and the line it does not cross.

Full system pages are on Nexus Foundry technical systems and the overview on The twenty Foundry systems.

04Project entry

How work enters Foundry.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

A national programme, institution or mission team describes its question and receives a reference.

  2. 02

    Scope and rights

The counterpart, the information scope, the data rights and the authority for the next step are agreed in writing.

  3. 03

    Workspace

A project workspace is opened for authorized users only, when access opens at the relevant service level.

  4. 04

    Build and review

Models and analysis are built in governed systems, and findings are reviewed before any publication.

05Twin and cascade simulator

Model foundry technical gateway as a system. Run the cascade.

Assembled from the Nexus Standards area profile Global and systemic risk: the hazards it names, the systems and sectors that carry the loss, the controls that dampen it and the data that observe it. Choose the components, pick an initiating hazard and step through the cascade. The Map view places the run on an example geography with open data. Every coupling weight is a stated assumption you can change. A teaching model, not a forecast, an assessment or a certification.

Hazards

  • Dam failure
  • Financial contagion
  • River flood (set off downstream)
  • Flash flood (set off downstream)
  • Mass displacement (set off downstream)
  • Widespread power outage (set off downstream)
  • Water supply shortfall (set off downstream)
  • Sovereign debt crisis (set off downstream)
  • Currency crisis (set off downstream)

Controls

  • NS-0 Constitution and principles
  • NS-3 Risk record UNIs (grammar, legacy crosswalk, allocation authority)
  • NS-9 Contextual UNIs (deployments, instances, programme instances)
  • NS-10 Policies and clauses (machine-readable obligations: definition, binding, evaluation and enforcement)
  • NS-11 Verification and monitoring (evidence, attestations, zero-trust conformance observation)
  • NS-14 Conformance and crosswalk to external standards

06Boundaries

Authorization stays with the people who hold it.

  • Participation gives Nexus no control of operational technology, and exercises carry no live actuation or warning authority.
  • A blueprint is not an installed environment, and requested capacity is not allocated capacity.
  • National programmes keep their agenda, data and decision rights under a rights schedule.
  • Nexus Foundry is hosted on cloud infrastructure in the United States, run by an external provider at arm's length. Personal information may be processed there under the privacy notice.
07Status

What is open today.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. Workspace access and computing allocations open only when their team, terms and review capacity are in place. Technical documentation is on Nexus Foundry. The Global Risk Forum (GRF) describes the annual programme work Foundry supports on Nexus Universe at GRF.

08Questions

Questions and answers.

Who operates Nexus Foundry?
National and regional Nexus Consortiums operate it through their host and lead organizations, within the programme led by the three pillar institutions. GCRI Canada supports them as global contracting party and runs the global-to-local deployment.
Who owns the Foundry code?
The technology developer and infrastructure operator is the intended licensor of the code and intellectual property to GCRI Canada for public-good, not-for-profit operation. It does not operate the service or direct programme decisions.
Can I get a workspace now?
Not yet. The current service level is information and enquiries; an enquiry receives a reference and the acknowledgement names the next step.
