01In brief

The short answer.

Trade and Strategic Resources is a specialist platform of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation for trade, resources and supply chains as well as industry and robotics. Its mandate covers supply networks, trade routes, critical minerals and strategic inputs that underpin industrial and national resilience. GCRI publishes it, answers for its content and takes no decision on anyone's behalf. It is in development at service level R0, and activities open as each is ready.

Mandate to authority.

How Trade and Strategic Resources is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

03Geography

People and hazards in the Strait of Malacca.

For mandate and publisher, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on night lights, population density and true-colour imagery with true colour from NASA GIBS, framed on the Strait of Malacca; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

04Mandate

The science of supply networks and strategic inputs.

The platform's mandate is research on supply networks, trade routes, critical minerals and strategic inputs that underpin industrial and national resilience. It covers physical flows, the structure of supplier networks, the materials science of substitution and recycling, and the economic transmission of disruptions.

Its core methods are input-output dependency analysis, network concentration measures and trade corridor GIS. It is designed for trade economists, logistics operators, mineral scientists and supply planners. Its scope is set out on the field overview.

What the platform does not do.

  • It does not regulate trade, set standards, certify supply chains or approve sourcing.
  • It does not give trade, sanctions-compliance, procurement or investment advice.
  • It does not rate companies or countries or publish confidential commercial data.
  • It does not claim partners, datasets or studies before their records exist.

Corrections, integrity and governance routes are described on GCRI governance and trust and the platform's trust page.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Service level R0The current service level of Nexus pages: information and enquiries only. An enquiry receives a reference and a named next step; it creates no membership, contract, assignment or commitment.
Conflict of interestA situation in which financial, professional or personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, judgement in research or review.
Supply chainThe network of organizations, activities and flows that turns inputs into products and delivers them to users.
Strategic resourceAn input whose loss would seriously harm an economy or security because it is essential and hard to replace.
08Development path

How the platform opens.

  1. 01

    Charter and editor

A distinct charter and an expert editor for the field, as required for every new platform.

  2. 02

    Evidence base

First topic pages and method notes, published with their sources, starting with supplier concentration and critical minerals.

  3. 03

    Community

Participation routes for researchers and practitioners open when terms and review capacity exist.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Why is this a GCRI platform rather than a GRA one?
It studies the real economy: physical flows, materials and networks. Financial exposures to supply-chain risk are studied by GRA platforms, which work as industry counterparts.
When will the platform be fully open?
No date is set. It opens in stages as its charter, editor, content and review capacity are in place.
Who can I contact now?
The research team at research@therisk.global. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.
Will the platform publish confidential company data?
No. It works with public sources and with data shared under clear written terms. Commercial information is not published without the owner's permission, and analysis is presented at a level that protects it.
How does the platform choose its first topics?
By the questions that recur across its practitioner communities and where shared methods add most value, beginning with supplier concentration and critical minerals. The choice is recorded on the research pages.
