Summary
The 30th anniversary of Beijing Platform for Action will be an opportunity to accelerate country-level impact, galvanized civil society and youth movements, and a determined multilateral system to realize women’s rights & gender equality for all.
Description
The side event will ‘kick-off’ the Beijing+30 process, aiming at achieving three specific objectives:
- Highlight the progress achieved on gender equality and underscore the persistent global and regional challenges, based on data and evidence;
- Lay out the UN Women Beijing+30 strategic vision
- Build energy, momentum and positive engagement on the Beijing+30 process across all stakeholders and countries.
These anniversaries not only provide an opportunity to review the progress made in advancing the gender equality agenda, but also offer a platform to bolster global action towards gender equality and a gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda and other global commitments. These include those under Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) and subsequent resolutions on women, peace, and security; the Addis Ababa Action Agenda of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (2015); the Paris agreement on climate change (2015); the ongoing review of progress on the implementation of the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan; and regional commitments to promote gender equality and the rights of women and girls, among others. As well as the implementation of the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations.

To generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all actors, the Secretary-General of the United Nations is convening the Summit of the Future Action Days on 20 and 21 September 2024 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Bringing together representatives from Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, youth, and many more, the Action Days will provide an opportunity for broad engagement and inclusion. These stakeholders have all played a key role in shaping the Pact for the Future and will be critical to its implementation.
Side events provide further insights and opportunities for multi-stakeholder collaboration.
