Ethiopia Risks Forum 2025
The Global Risks Forum – National Engagement Series: Ethiopia is a high-level, hybrid-format initiative led by NWG Ethiopia, a nationally grounded but fully independent coalition of experts, practitioners, and innovators. Operating without affiliation to the Government of Ethiopia or any political institution, NWG Ethiopia serves as a neutral and nonpartisan platform for advancing collaborative dialogue and innovation in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster risk finance (DRF), and disaster risk intelligence (DRI).
Aligned with the mission of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) and Global Risks Forum (GRF), this series brings Ethiopia’s stakeholders into a global ecosystem focused on systemic foresight, equitable resilience, and inclusive governance. The forum engages actors from the quintuple helix—academia, civil society, private sector, international organizations, and government (as participating stakeholders)—to address national and cross-border risks through data-driven, community-informed approaches.
Strategic Purpose
The Ethiopia edition is designed to:
- Enable independent, future-oriented dialogue on climate, conflict, food systems, and public health risks;
- Facilitate the integration of frontier technologies into early warning, risk monitoring, and sustainable development systems;
- Advance institutional capacity-building and financial innovation for anticipatory and inclusive risk governance;
- Mobilize youth networks, Indigenous communities, researchers, and diaspora actors to co-develop solutions grounded in Ethiopia’s diverse social and ecological landscapes.
Sessions prioritize strategic outcomes—generating simulation-based policy frameworks, resilient financing instruments, and adaptive governance models that respond to Ethiopia’s evolving challenges and opportunities.
Technical Foundation: Nexus Ecosystem Integration
The forum operates within the Nexus Ecosystem, a globally integrated infrastructure combining AI, quantum computing, and blockchain for real-time decision support and collaborative innovation. NWG Ethiopia activates this infrastructure through tools such as:
- AI-enhanced risk modeling and forecasting systems tailored for drought, flood, conflict, and food insecurity scenarios
- Geospatial intelligence and Earth Observation platforms for environmental and agricultural risk mapping
- Quantum cloud orchestration tools for digital infrastructure management, automation, and service delivery
- IoT-enabled early warning systems for remote, real-time risk detection and community alerts
- Smart contracts for pre-arranged emergency response mechanisms and equitable fund disbursement
- Blockchain-based disaster risk finance tools, including parametric insurance and digital resilience funds
- Immersive policy simulation platforms to support decision-making, training, and participatory governance
- Benchmarking and data governance frameworks for standardized multi-hazard analysis and transparency
These capabilities enable Ethiopia’s stakeholders to strengthen their national risk landscape understanding, develop adaptive responses, and align local actions with global systems of resilience.
Governance and Participation
All programming under NWG Ethiopia is independently led and guided by GRA and GRF’s frameworks. The forum is nonpartisan and unaffiliated with any government or political entity, ensuring full scientific objectivity, ethical responsibility, and transparent engagement.
Participation is open to researchers, grassroots organizations, policymakers, technologists, community leaders, youth advocates, and global development partners committed to shaping Ethiopia’s risk-resilient future through inclusive and anticipatory approaches.
Join the Movement
We welcome collaborators from across Ethiopia and the global community to participate in the Global Risks Forum – Ethiopia Series. Together, we can co-create transformative risk governance models, unlock innovative financial tools, and strengthen systems for sustainable development, peacebuilding, and climate resilience—while remaining deeply embedded in a global alliance for collective impact.
