01STEM + field
A platform is a community applying named methods to a field.
Water Nexus is science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) applied to water: hydrologists, engineers and data scientists using stated methods on water questions. Grounding every platform in its methods does three things.
Links that mean something
Platforms that use the same method meet on it. A flood scientist and a catastrophe modeller meet on extreme value theory, the method they share.
One loop
Methods are what Nexus Foundry implements, what the annual Nexus Universe programme tests and what Nexus Reports publishes, so a question can be followed to a corrected result.

02Field platforms
Five fields where the systems meet.
The field platforms follow the systems at the centre of the Nexus approach. Each studies its own field together with the fields it depends on, because that is where failures travel.

05The STEM Commons
One shared library of methods for the whole network.
Each method has one canonical page on therisk.global and one steward platform that answers for its quality. Every platform that applies it shows how it is used in that field. Pages are published as each one opens.
For example, the page on extreme value theory in water covers flood return periods, changing climate and the limits of short records, and links to the same method as used in catastrophe insurance.

Three faces of a field: science, governance and finance.
GCRI studies a field as science. Global Risk Forum (GRF) works on how it is governed and Global Risk Alliance (GRA) on what it means for finance; both are independent consortium stewards with GCRI. Counterpart platforms link to each other and keep their own publisher and voice.

Questions about the specialist network.
What is a GCRI specialist platform?
A specialist platform is a community website on therisk.global for one field, such as water or health, or one shared service, such as reports or testing. It brings together the people who work on that subject and the methods they apply, and it is designed to name its legal publisher.
What does STEM + field mean?
It means each platform is grounded in named methods from science, technology, engineering and mathematics applied to its field. Water Nexus, for instance, applies hydrology, earth observation, extreme value theory and uncertainty analysis to water questions, so its claims can be traced to methods and data.
How do I join a platform community?
Start on the platform itself or write to experts@therisk.global. Experts and volunteers usually contribute through bounded, supervised assignments in the National Working Groups, described on Work with GCRI. Joining a community does not confer membership of a national programme, an appointment or access to restricted data.
What does "in development" mean?
It means the platform is in development: its pages set out its scope and how it works, and activities, records and services are published as each opens. Until then it follows the current service level, R0, information and enquiries, and it makes no claim of activity, members or publications.
How do GCRI platforms relate to those of GRF and GRA?
They are counterparts. GCRI platforms examine a field as science, GRF platforms examine how it is governed, and GRA platforms examine what the evidence means for responsible financial decisions. Each links to the others and keeps its own publisher.
