Welcome to the National Stakeholders Identification Thread for Botswana!
This thread identifies and maps key stakeholders across sectors to support climate action, disaster risk reduction (DRR), biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development efforts in Botswana. We aim to engage relevant actors to mobilize climate finance and strengthen partnerships for the Global Risks Forum 2025 and other global frameworks, including the Santiago Network for Loss and Damage.

How You Can Contribute: Identify Stakeholders Across the Quintuple Helix Framework
1- Academia and Research: Universities, think tanks, and research institutions focusing on sustainability, climate policy, DRR, and biodiversity in Botswana.
Example: Institutions like the University of Botswana, Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), and research centers such as the Okavango Research Institute.

2- Industry and Business: Corporations, startups, and financial institutions involved in renewable energy, green technologies, and climate finance.
Example: Solar energy providers, mining companies adopting sustainable practices, green startups, and financial institutions offering loans for renewable energy projects.

3- Civil Society and NGOs: Non-profits, advocacy groups, and community organizations working on conservation, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development.
Example: NGOs like Kalahari Conservation Society, BirdLife Botswana, and community groups promoting reforestation, conservation, and resilience in rural communities.

4- Government and Public Sector: National, regional, and local government agencies involved in climate policy, environmental regulations, and disaster management.
Example: Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, National Disaster Management Office, and local councils managing environmental initiatives.

5- Natural Environment: Organizations managing ecosystems, protected areas, and promoting biodiversity conservation across Botswana.
Example: Botswana Predator Conservation Trust, organizations managing the Okavango Delta, and conservation programs to protect endangered species like elephants and rhinos.

Description
The National Working Group (NWG) for Botswana is part of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI), dedicated to engaging local, national, and regional stakeholders in advancing climate action, disaster risk reduction (DRR), biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. The Botswana NWG operates under the Quintuple Helix framework, fostering collaboration across academia, industry, civil society, government, and environmental organizations to develop innovative solutions for climate challenges. As a member of this group, you will: 1- Identify and map key stakeholders across sectors contributing to Botswana’s climate action efforts, biodiversity restoration, and disaster resilience. 2- Mobilize partnerships and align stakeholders with global frameworks for Loss and Damage under the Global Risks Alliance. 3- Develop engagement strategies to leverage climate finance mechanisms and drive policy innovation for sustainable development in Botswana. 4- Participate in workshops and collaborative events that connect local initiatives with global solutions. This group provides a platform to coordinate multi-sector collaboration, influence national climate policies, and mobilize resources for a sustainable and resilient future. Together, we aim to strengthen Botswana’s role in global climate action and support disaster risk reduction and biodiversity efforts at all levels. Join us to drive innovation, engage stakeholders, and build a sustainable future for Botswana and beyond!
