The Quantum Technologies STEM foundation is the set of canonical methods its findings depend on, from physics and quantum science to probability and statistics. For the Consortium, Quantum Technologies stewards physics and quantum science as well as quantum computing, sensing and communication. Each method has a canonical STEM Commons page and a page here on its use in the quantum field.

For STEM foundation of quantum technologies, in GCRI's spatial-intelligence reading, the map opens on night lights, true-colour imagery and population density with night lights tonight from NASA GIBS, framed on Japan and Korea; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.
The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

Quantum work rests on physics for what devices can do, quantum technology for computing, sensing and communication, cybersecurity for the cryptographic transition, materials chemistry for device supply and probability for reading noisy experimental results. Reading results with these methods lets an analyst tell a demonstrated, error-corrected operation from a laboratory record that will not survive scaling.
Quantum work combines physics and quantum technology with cybersecurity, materials chemistry and probability.
When a finding names the methods it depends on, a reader can see its assumptions and limits, and an expert in that method can challenge it.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| STEM Commons | The shared reference of science, technology, engineering and mathematics methods for the Nexus network, hosted by GCRI, with one canonical page per method and a named steward platform. |
| Steward platform | The platform that maintains the canonical description of a method in the STEM Commons and reviews how other platforms apply it. |
| Physics and quantum science | Physics studies matter, energy and their interactions, from fundamental particles to large-scale systems. |
| Quantum computing, sensing and communication | Quantum computing, sensing and communication exploit quantum mechanical effects to process information and make measurements. |
The bodies and documents this page is read against. Status and editions change; each link goes to the issuing body.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
