The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI)
Topics at Systemic Risk Management: the pages in this section are listed below, each with its own scope and status.

The Systemic Risk Management topics are the eight subject dossiers of its field, among them risk governance and appetite, identification and risk taxonomy, and cascades and interdependence. Each dossier sets out how the risk develops, what is measured and in which units, the public sources and their licences, the methods, who decides and the limits of the evidence.
GCRI is a research, development and policy institution. It is not a regulator, and it does not certify, license or approve; its findings carry their methods and uncertainty.
The topics follow the risk management process: governance and appetite, identification, analysis of cascades, methods, scenarios, resilience, the enterprise and public contexts, and assurance.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Risk tolerance | The acceptable variation in performance around a specific objective or measure, which makes an appetite statement checkable. |
| Risk identification | The process of finding, recognising and describing risks that could affect objectives. |
| Interdependency | A two-way relationship in which the state of each system affects the state of the other. |
| Risk matrix | A grid that ranks risks by combining likelihood and consequence categories, useful for screening. |
| Stress test | An assessment of performance under a severe but plausible adverse scenario. |
