01In brief

The short answer.

Observatory Platform is the Nexus Foundry system for observatory nodes, sensor telemetry and proof of observation. It serves 4 platforms, among them Water Nexus and Critical Infrastructure, and its stated limit is that telemetry keeps its evidence label and owner. Access is through an authorized project with an accountable owner, data terms and a review plan.

02Geography

Land surface in the Arctic.

Surface classes an Earth-observation programme reads: ranges, deserts, glaciers, lakes and reefs, shown for the Arctic as an example geography for this subject.

04The problem it addresses

Observations decay without maintenance and metadata.

Gauges, weather stations and infrastructure sensors produce data whose value depends on calibration, siting and continuity. Gaps and drift that go unrecorded become errors in every model downstream.

  • Station metadata following WIGOS practice.
  • Calibration and maintenance records.
  • Quality flags carried with each observation.
05Reference practice

The standards a design like this is read against.

What it exchanges with the other systems.

  • Feeds GRIx, EOP and EWS.
  • Uses NET for transport.
07Access

Authorized projects only.

Access requires an authorized project with an accountable owner, data terms and a review plan. Enquiries go to contact@therisk.global.

08Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Observing systemThe combination of instruments and platforms that systematically measures a variable.
TelemetryAutomatic transmission of readings from remote instruments to a central system, by radio, cellular or satellite link.
Sensor driftA gradual change in an instrument's readings unrelated to the quantity measured, corrected by regular calibration against reference measurements.
